2022: 25 Films

Julian’s ninth annual video tribute to the Top 25 Films of 2022

The best films of 2022 weren’t just visually stunning or emotionally moving. For the first time in a long while, many of these films turned their introspective eye on their own medium as much as they did to the inner lives of their audience members. With many moviegoers returning to theaters for the first time in years, the creatives behind these films realized there was an opportunity to reckon with and reshape how and why films were made. These filmmakers made ambitious leaps in terms of thematic resonance and bold thematic execution. They depicted moments of triumph and tragedy in equal measure, recognizing how much darkness the world was capable of–while also championing our ability to endure and persevere together. All of these films had a profound impact on me, and I hope this 9th yearly montage does them all justice.
