THE ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE AND DOGFISH-HEAD SHARE THE 2016 OFF-CENTERED FILM FESTIVAL WITH TEXAS!

by Jon Partridge

Followers of our site and Austinites alike, should be familiar with the Off-Centered Film Festival. An annual celebration of film, beer and shenaniganry brought to this city by the fine folks at the Alamo Drafthouse and Dogfish head brewing. Last year’s fest had “Yacht Rockin” as a theme. This entailed a Master Pancake outdoor screening of Titanic, a beer fueled boat trip and screening of Cabin Boy with special guests and a magnificent beerfeast to celebrate the majesty of The Life Aquatic. This year’s theme will be “Medieval Times” and involve beer related events revolving around the films Braveheart, Time Bandits and Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

For a change, this will be the first year the OCFF goes beyond Austin, taking portions of the events on a multi-city tour, via Alamo Drafthouse Locations in Dallas and Houston. As you may suspect, it’s not just film at these events. Sam Calagione, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery founder and president, will also be in person throughout the fest and bringing with him a number of rare and vintage Dogfish brews. He’ll also be doing a signing of his new book while in Dallas.

OCFF 2016 Press Release

HEAR YE! HEAR YE! HERALDING THE 9TH ANNUAL
“OFF-CENTERED FILM FEST”

THE EPIC THREE-DAY CELEBRATION OF CRAFT BEER,
FOOD AND FILM (AND BOAT PARTIES) RETURNS TO CONQUER AUSTIN — AND, FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER, DALLAS AND HOUSTON, TOO!

Austin, TX — April 14, 2016 — Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery are proud to announce the return of the “Off-Centered Film Fest.” Now in its ninth year, OCFF is an epic three-day celebration of craft beer, delicious food and off-centered films for off-centered people. This year, the theme is “Medieval Times,” a sword-swinging, mace-wielding tribute to the Middle Ages on the silver screen. And, sound the trumpets and ring the bells, because this year OCFF is spreading the ye olde fune across the land of Texas with its first-ever multi-city tour! Now off-centered beer fans in Houston and Dallas can get it on the delicious action at their local Alamo Drafthouse locations.

Highlights this year include Austin movie mockers Master Pancake raising their kilts on BRAVEHEART, the Terry Gilliam mind-melter TIME BANDITS served up with a suitably mouth-melting feast, and the greatest — or at least the funniest — quest film the world has ever known, MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL presented as a glorious coconut-clopping, fully interactive Quote-Along.

Rare and vintage Dogfish Head beers will be available for purchase at all OCFF screenings. Plus, Sam Calagione, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery founder and president, will also be in person throughout the fest, hosting and toasting a goblet to the realm and to his favorite subject, collaboration. Calagione even wrote a book about it and will be hosting a book signing happy hour at this year’s festival stop in Dallas.

“Off-Centered is always such a blast,” says Sam. “I look forward to traveling to Austin, but I’m over the moon that we’ll get to hit Dallas and Houston this year, too. Being able to share a pint with folks all over Texas, talk a bit about my new book and maybe share some stories about successful collaborations like OCFF, now that’s what I call party.”

OCFF kicks off Friday, May 13 in Katy at Mason Park with Master Pancake presenting their legendary mock of Mel Gibson’s epic BRAVEHEART. The festival travels to Austin on Saturday, May 14, for a Ye Olde VIP Boat Party on Lady Bird Lake in the afternoon, and that evening a feast presentation of TIME BANDITS featuring five delectably time-hopping courses designed by Alamo Chef Trish Eichelberger. Then on Sunday, May 15, Sam and the gang will be in Dallas for a happy hour where he’ll sign copies of his new book, “Off-centered Leadership,” before closing out the festival that night with an epic MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL Quote-Along.

“Off-Centered Festival has become one of my all-time favorite annual events,” says Alamo Drafthouse CEO and Founder Tim League. “We’re long overdue bringing a taste of the fest to other Alamos and other cities. I’m excited for Dallas and Houston to join in on the fun — and all the delicious, delicious beer.”
