New on Blu-ray from the classic cinema mavens at The Film Detective, The Sherlock Holmes Vault Collection collects four Sherlock films from the 1930s, three of them — Sherlock Holmes’ Fatal Hour (1931), The Triumph of Sherlock Holmes (1935), and Silver Blaze (1937) — from the same series starring Arthur Wontner and Ian Fleming as Holmes and Watson. The fourth film, A Study in Scarlet (1933), is unrelated to the other three except in its 1933 production date.
I’m currently making my way through the four films and will post a formal review soon, but in the meantime here’s a pictorial of the set.
The set is enclosed in a slipbox, which features a cutaway for ease of removal.
The four films are each individually cased in Amaray style cases, and include a booklet with an essay about the film, as well as a handsome miniature postcard featuring the movie artwork.
