Exhumed Films Looks to Fund “The Space”

If you love genre film in Philadelphia you’ve no doubt probably attended an Exhumed Films Double Feature at the Lightbox, or possibly even their legendary yearly 24-Hour Horror-thon. Well the folks behind this hallowed institution that has been screening films in the Philadelphia area for two decades have launched a Gofundme to create their own space that feels like something gloriously ripped from the ‘80s. “The Space,” as they are calling it, will be located in Southern New Jersey and will not just be a dedicated screening space for the group. It will also serve as an archive for Exhumed’s massive 35mm print collection and a store front for Diabolik DVD. If that wasn’t enough of a reason to support “The Space,” there will also be an old school arcade with a curated video game selection to complete the nostalgia trip.

From the sound of the write up on the Gofundme the building has already been purchased, but they are looking for completion funds to finish renovating the space. This is to not only set up the spaces for the arcade and the store front, but to add two screening rooms featuring both 16mm and 35mm projection to the mix. This is will give the group the ability to screen films any time they wish, which could be a game changer for Exhumed, because they can now screen lesser known films that may not attract a huge crowd and not have to worry about paying to rent a space. There are plenty of great perks listed, from T-shirts to the ability to program your own double feature at “The Space,” that make this a great project to support if you’re either in the area or want to support film exhibition and preservation.
