The 8th Annual Off Centered Film Fest graced Austin this past weekend. The lineup we previously shared with you and now, with our livers in a state of submission, is the time to report back on what went down. As ever, the Alamo delivered a stonking good time; the clue is in the name, but the Drafthouse truly works best when beer is thrown into the mix, and the OCFF — an ongoing collaboration between the Drafthouse and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery — really is a great “multi-day celebration of craft beer, delicious food” and “off-centered films for off-centered people.” This year’s theme was “Yacht Rockin!”
Proceedings kicked off last Thursday with an outdoor screening of Titanic coupled to a beer festival. Yes, Dogfish and some of their Texas brethern brought forth their boozy wares to help ease the pain of watching tiny Leonardo Di Caprio be refused access to that piece of wood with ample space for two. Rose just wanted to stretch out, didn’t she?
But this was not just any screening, no, this was a Master Pancake screening! Think Mystery Science Theater 3000, but with a tad more vulgarity. A staple of the Alamo Drafthouse programming, Master Pancake features local comedians John Erler and Joe Parsons, often with addition talent from around town who give live commentary, dialogue replacement and…my favorite…re-scoring segments of the film. Mercifully, Titanic was trimmed down to 90 minutes, but it still allowed plenty of time to be entertained. Check out the pictures from the event below.
The OCFF continued for three more days; expect a few more articles showing you what went down.
