As anyone who has seen Korean director Lee Jeong-beom’s previous film The Man From Nowhere knows… in these films, you don’t bring a gun to a knife fight. No Tears For The Dead is Jeong-beom’s latest action film, and this rule remains a sound one. With top notch and thrilling action sequences interspersed throughout the film, and an appropriately Korean tragic and melodramatic storyline, Jang Dong-gun’s Gon (a skilled assassin) must seek some kind of redemption for himself after he accidentally takes the life of a small child and is next asked to take out that child’s mother.
While this latest feature does have an insanely bloody close quarters knife fight for fans of the director, there are also well-staged gun battles and the third act morphs into a full on Korean homage to Die Hard. I had a blast with No Tears For The Dead and hope a lucky winner will enjoy this Blu-ray as much as I did.
