Things are reaching a fever pitch here at CinAPES. As of this writing we still have seats available for a free screening of Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes in Austin, TX so get on that! The few among us who’ve caught advance screenings already are pledged to silence (but I’ll bet you can read between the lines) and the rest of us can’t wait to experience it ourselves.
In a neat intersection of filmmaking and marketing, The Planet Of The Apes franchise has partnered with Vice’s MOTHERBOARD video magazine to produce three shorts which provide some glimpses of what has transpired in the time between Rise Of The POTA and Dawn Of The POTA, from a raging simian flu epidemic to total societal decay.
These artsy, human-centered shorts have a different tone than their blockbuster brethren and don’t actually feature any apes on screen, but are interesting on their own, and at the very least a worthwhile diversion while await the Dawn.
Spread of Simian Flu (Year 1) — Director: Isaiah Seret
Struggling to Survive (Year 5) — Director: Daniel Thron
Story of the Gun (Year 10) — Director: thirtytwo
Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes releases July 11.
